A political and patriotic film from 1922 that traces the course of the Rhine from its source to the mouth and depicts landscapes and cities as well as the rivers historical, cultural and economical importance. Documentary images (of Karlsruhe among others) are combined with animations and acted scenes. In light of the French occupation of parts of the Rhineland, the film was praised by critics as a “patriotic deed”, in contrast the film was prohibited in the occupied zone due to its “insulting content for France”.
